Kurz vor der Veröffentlichung des neuen Kataonia-Albums stand uns Sänger Jonas Renkse Rede und Antwort.

1. Hello Jonas, we’re very pleased you check out our questions today.

Right on...

2. When listening to „My Twin“ it sounds like Katatonia is coming back once again to the more melodic songs after the hard and rough „Viva Emptiness“. What do the other new songs sound like for you?

Well, I think 'My Twin' is the most accessible song on the album. It's classic Katatonia. The rest of the songs are basically variations on our
sound, some of them more progressive than we've ever been before, some of them more dark and textured etc.

3. How was it recording with Jens Bogren at "Fascination Street" compared to your older recordings at "Sunlight Studio"?

We've been working with Jens before, he's very good at what he do, very focused on details. The studio is miles apart from Sunlight studio in terms of equipment and possibilities. I think we reached a point with 'Last Fair Deal Gone Down', that's probably as good as it gets with a 24-tracker. Nowadays we demand a little bit more so to speak.

4. Your voice sounds very crispy and clear on the sample of "My Twin". I think you improved a lot as a singer from release to release. Do you know what microphone was used?

I like the vocal sound, we tried a couple of the usual Neumann's that I've been using before but for this record we actually used an AKG Solid Tube. It was the one that suited my voice best at the time.

The Great Cold Distance5. How important is the booklet and graphic design for you?

Very important, we always want to deliver a package with the music being one part and the graphics being one part. It's something we've been into since the very beginning of the band.

6. Why did you choose a cemetary for band photography? Is it true that it's the same cemetary Entombed used for band pictures in the early 90s?

Absolutely. It's a classic place for bandpics.

7. How do you feel as a frontman on stage? And how was it to „only“ be a bassist at the Wacken performance with Bloodbath?

I've grown to like the role as a frontman. After all, Katatonia is not really about entertaining, it's about performing our music. And I think I can handle that nowadays. Being only the bassplayer at Wacken was
relaxing. Killer gig, superb vibes.

8. How about a Katatonia video clip?

We just finished the video cip for 'My Twin' a couple off weeks back, new experience for us and hopefully it will help us to expand as a band.

9. Thanks for answering, the last words are up to you.

Thanks for your time and interest. In Nomine Dei Nostri Satanas Luciferi Excelsi.
